Hi folks!
New music is the daily mantra! Songwriting is moving off of my
“hobby“ page. I’m setting the goal of a new CD of original music
with my player/teacher colleagues, to be performed live at the
McNally Smith Artist Series on Wednesday, December 9th. No
style or genre parameters – just new songs!
I’m also exploring vocal techniques that will challenge any singer,
including my latest obsession – intoning. I’ve discovered that the
practice of intoning is useful to open the breath and remove
unnecessary tension where we often don’t notice it, during
inhalation. I’m amazed at how the process has become so
enjoyable that I’ve already found places for its use in
performance. Sound crazy? Come and hear my student Joshua
in recital this July 31st where he will use intoning in a performance
of the “Bad Plus” song “Dirty Blonde”. Whee!
